About UKOilWatch

UKOilWatch provides UK fuel price and supply intelligence by presenting official government data in a clear, readable format.

The site tracks fuel reserve levels, weekly pump prices, and crude oil benchmarks — making data that exists across multiple DESNZ spreadsheets and GOV.UK publications accessible in one place.

What the dashboard covers

UK oil stock levels by product type (petrol, diesel, jet fuel, heating oil)

Days-of-supply by product, graded against each fuel’s own history

Weekly UK pump prices from DESNZ (CMA Road Fuel Prices Scheme)

Brent crude oil benchmark pricing, updated in near real-time

AI-generated analysis summarising the current UK fuel picture

25-month reserve trend charts and 52-week price history

Why UK fuel data matters

The UK is a net importer of refined fuel products — approximately 40% of diesel consumed in the UK is imported, primarily from Netherlands and Belgium refineries. Under IEA obligations the UK holds emergency oil stocks — a requirement assessed on total oil stocks against net imports, which DESNZ reports the UK more than meets. The per-product figures on this site measure something narrower: how long each fuel’s stock would cover normal consumption. During supply disruptions that cover is the buffer between normal supply and rationing.

The government maintains a National Emergency Plan for Fuel (NEPF) for managing severe supply disruptions, including potential rationing. Public visibility into reserve levels helps fleet operators, procurement teams, and policymakers plan accordingly.

Data and methodology

Reserve data comes from DESNZ Energy Trends Table 3.11 (stocks) and Table 3.13 (consumption), published monthly with an approximate 2-month lag. Weekly pump prices come from the DESNZ weekly road fuel prices dataset, collected via the CMA Road Fuel Prices Scheme covering approximately 90% of UK retail volume. See the Methodology page for full details.

Who this is for

UKOilWatch is used by UK fleet and logistics operators monitoring diesel availability and costs, procurement teams tracking price movements, energy analysts and researchers, and journalists covering UK fuel supply and pricing.
